What the hell is going on in here! I sign on and Tt is talking about the BeeGees. I honestly can't comment on this because I could only ever get past 30 seconds of the singing on a BeeGees song, and then I had to bolt for the door. Let's face it, if you absolutely hate the singing a band puts forth, you're not going to be able to get into the music.
And speaking of a door, if you want to listen to a band that was a million years ahead of their time and made music that will never die, listen to what I have on right now:
The Doors (First album)
If The Doors had never existed and came out right now, they would still blow people away, even despite the fact that America has saturated themselved in ridiculous music in the last fifteen years. The age of The Doors was a time when bands actually had talented musicians, and something like American Idol would have been laughed off a stage. Ah ... if we could only get back to those times.
As far as Guns N' Roses, they brought back what was gone from true Rock N' Roll all those years. Down and dirty, sleazy, booze drenched rock, a lot like what it was like to go to a Doors show and not know what the hell was going to go down when The Lizard King took the stage.
I think this new Guns release is going to be nothing more than an Axl Rose solo project. But I could be wrong. Haven't heard one note of any song on it yet, so I can't really crap on it.

I woke up and couldn't sleep, slapped some tunes on.
To show how weird I am when it comes to listening to different kinds of bands, one right after another, here's the five CD's in my player right now:
1) Nantucket Sleighride by Mountain 2) RELoad by Metallica 3) Theater of Pain by Motley Crue 4) American Beauty by The Grateful Dead 5) The Doors (First Album)
Someone up there mentioned Jazz, I think. It might have been another thread. But the only Jazz I've been listening to these days, is Bitch's Brew by Miles Davis; the second disc on that set will turn your mind inside out, stomp on it, and then toss it back in pieces.
Just keep any and all rap, along with country music, as far away from me as possible so my head doesn't explode.

This is more listening and watching. Saturday night, the local PBS station played part of Pink Floyd's Pulse dvd set. They showed a 1994 concert where Dark Side Of The Moon was played in the order the songs appear on the cd. Then after an inestimable amount of begging, they showed Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb.
Got my hands on an advance copy of Germany's Grave Digger's new album called Ballads of the Hangman. Some seriously great metal here. Raw vocals like Lordi with killer 80's speed metal axework.
Also listening to a greatest hits compilation by Triumph.
The Essential Dion. It contains most of the hits by Dion & the Belmonts, along with some of his later work. Some personal favorites are The Wanderer, Runaround Sue, and Donna the Prima Donna.

Kill 'Em All by Metallica: ah ... the good old days before everyone got rich, when Metallica still played for beer, women and the love of metal, and not dollar signs.

Horrordude, I more or less wrote off Metallica when they sued Napster. The band who always claimed they were for the people showed which people they really were for...themselves. Their early stuff was kller because the metal was pure and for the sheer love of it. Fame and fortune really killed them.
Horrordude, if you want to try some killer stuff that will rock your world, try In Flames, Children of Bodom, and Communic. Some dark and angry stuff that rock like crazy.

Filter & Pixies. Is it obvious I'm feeling less melancholy? A couple of days ago I was dying a death by my fiances Man O' War CD's. I can't stand Man O' War!

It could be either undead, I've never actually looked at the cases because I can't stand them. I've just been reliably informed whenever I've said "holy crap, what the hell is that rubbish?". They are a metal band though, around in the 80's apparently. I just have to suffer the god awful warbling whenever my fiance listens to them. I'm a huge metal fan, but that guys voice is like a drill in my skull. I usually try and evacuate the house when I hear it.

Well, Mould does a song called Helpless with his band called Sugar on an album called Copper Blue that I can't stop singing when I'm in a great mood. (Boy, that was a mouthfull). So I can at least put that up against anything the Pixes do.
In fact, I would put the Screaming Blue Messiahs in the same catagory (I wanna be a Flinstone!).

I haven't got the new Gun N' Roses yet. And the only really good thing I've heard anyone say about it so far, was a guy on VH1, said it was as good as their early stuff-saying that is major, so I'm guessing the guy is probably friends with Axl.
If this new one is even half as good as their first album, I'll fall over and crap myself.

This album is nothing like the GNR of old. It is a good album, though. The only thing reminiscent is Axl's vocals, and even those are different. His lower register is more prominent in the mix, with his higher, raspier tones layered in the back.
Good album, not great, and not GNR. It's an Axl Rose solo album that's been mislabeled.

The GNR album is really a misnomer. Chinese Democracy, if anything, is an Axl solo disk with a bunch of hired hands. Even more noticeable is Axl's influence by Trent Reznor of NIN...but not in a good way as the styles do not jibe.
When I first listened, the title track started off pretty cool and I thought, yeah, they're back. But the album fell way too short. It sounds like Axl was trying to create a musical masterpiece that would transcend genres and go down as the greatest rock record in history. Well, he fell short. The tunes often sound dated and stale and are often too over the top or bombastic. This is not even as good as Spaghettin Incident, let alone their classic disks with stripped down punk-edged metal. Why? Well, izzy's songwriting influence is clearly absent, as is Slash's guitar sound.
Radio will tell you to buy this, that it is great, etc. I'm speaking as a fan who loved GNR from their early demos to their last recorded stuff. I wish this cd harkened back to that. But it doesn't. JMHO.
tt, good to hear that you're listening to Zep. Rock on, brotha
Raven, as a metal fan, who are your favorites? UK metal bands have long been a staple of the scene. Dragonforce are from your neck of the woods and have some of the fastest fretwork you have ever heard.

I'm ashamed to say that there aren't that many UK metal bands that I love, but here are a few:
Orange Goblin Cradle of Filth Napalm Death Sunna One Minute Silence I like some Black Sabbath (one of my fiances faves) I like some Motorhead (another of my fiances faves)
A few from elsewhere:
Slipknot Godsmack Deftones Nirvana System of a Down Rammstein

Legalize It by Peter Tosh 1984 by Van Halen Badmotorfinger by Soundgarden Tales From The Punchbowl by Primus Led Zeppelin I < Dude's Are Gods! Take Your Hand Off My Thong by Ttzuma
