He needs more of that attitude in his novels. Though I haven't read the new one, the last two, while excellent reads, were a little on the progesterone side. He needs to kick some major ass. In his writing, not his bitches. Nanci wears steel toed shoes, has brass knuckles, and welds a branding iron...Peter wouldn't stand a chance.

You know - I have no clue why Peter said that. I've met him on several occasions and that has to be, by far, the strangest thing he has ever said to me.

I think he's a great writer, but he loves digressions, and while I love them too, I think you're only allowed so many in horror and thiller novels before you lose whatever tension you've managed to create.

I'm reading A Dark Matter, which is about the same incident told from different view points, and amazingly it's working because the story's structure allows Straub all the digressions he wants without sacrificing our attention. This may turn out to be his most succesful work yet!

But I'm posting because you nailed it when you said he needs more attitude. Sometimes he's just too damn cautious! If he handles the cosmic horror in A Dark Matter half as well as Laird Barron does this would probably be the most frightening thing I read all year.

Oh, and I don't know if there are any other Laird Barron fans here, but he's got another collection of stories due out in a couple of months called Occulation. Can't wait!

I saw something that popped up in my email that said Peter Straub told Nanci that she was his bitch. It came from facebook, but for the life of me, I don't know how it got into my email, and it doesn't show up anywhere on my facebook page. I know it happened because Nanci said it happened. I'm very confused by it and I thought it may have caused Nanci some discomfort. She let me know it didn't. So I forgot about it, my fault. It's also my fault for assuming you knew that I was talking about a facebook comment when I answered you the first time.

I'm sorry for bringing this up in the first place, it's turned into something other than being humorous. Except for Johnj's comments, which I enjoyed.

And you got an email about it because you must have commented on Nanci's page. When you comment on Facebook, you get a notification about subsequent comments in that "thread."

If it were only that simple. I didn't comment on it, and it wasn't on Nanci's page. It was on Straubs page which I was not a member of. I did join it though a few minutes ago and did comment on the bitch remark.
Peter was nice enough to add me, though if everything I do on facebook holds true, it might be the last remark I make on his page.

I do go on it once a day, I like to look at a few of the author's pages as well as some of the members here. I think next to you, I comment the least of anyone.
