For some totally unknowable reason I just spent ten minutes attempting to figure out if King's Way Press was an ongoing operation. I see KWP's last post here was in 2012. The Facebook page looks dormant and the last couple posts look perfunctory in nature. I see a whole shipload of future titles available on the website, along with prices. It look's like a person could pre-pay $350 for a future lettered title! I stayed out of the controversy about Full Moon Press and Paul Little's somewhat bizarre exit from publishing. A couple years ago I was thinking I might want to purchase some books from KWP and I looked at their eBay auctions. Along with the KWP titles there was a host of political books for naifs. This wacko juxtaposition kinda put me off from handing the guy any money, as seemingly he had views not in the mainstream and not to my liking. Any idea what Zach Powell is up to?
He went on for a while about putting out some books but where are they? I'd like to see ththeat Garton book I pre-paid for in 2012. I'll try and email Zach.
To be honest, I'd forgotten all about this publisher. I almost never pre-order books anyway, even from publishers I know and respect, so I would definitely never pre-order from a start-up press I know nothing about. Hopefully they start putting out some books and nobody gets screwed over - although I'm guessing that won't be the case.
I hope everyone had a great and safe Thanksgiving!

I picked that up off a blog post. It didn't have a year listed on it. Oh effin great. The guy sold lifetime subs... I read further down. It is from 2012 and the guy also had auctions for PC editions of his stuff with some of the money going to worthy causes. Hope not too many people drank the koolaid.
Look's like he has published 4 books. Killer's Diary The Skull Ring reprint Frankenstein reprint Dracula reprint His website lists 6 additional books to be printed "soon."
He has not responded to my email. He has preorder money for those 6 books he's listed. I know I paid for the Garton. He sold lifetime memberships but not to me. I would like an update from Zach.
A friend sent me this newsletter he received from Zach Powell on Aug. 3, 2013 (no newsletters since this one) -

Coming Soon, New Title Announcements, Including The Park!
At King's Way Press, I am always working on new projects. I have several unannounced projects already in the works!
One of these projects is called The Park. It was written by a talented writer and I am sure it will be a hit! The Park:
Why would a small backwoods town build a new super fancy and expensive park, complete with the nicest playground equipment available, when they can't possibly afford it?
Why would this park be located in a very remote location?
Why does no one local to the town use The Park for recreation?
Find out in the new horror novel, The Park coming soon from King's Way Press!
The Park is just one of many new titles coming in the future from KWP!
Keep watching for more details soon!
Poker Night by Ray Garton!
Just wanted to let you all know that Poker Night is still in the finishing stages of the writing. I will be touching base with Ray next week for a status update. What I can tell you is that if you want a copy, you need to visit the site soon, because Poker Night WILL be sold out upon publication!
Thank you for the chance to deliver some great books!
Wow. That's a huge amount of stuff that didn't happen. Nothing on his website or Facebook page that corroborates any of this information. I would think that this email went out to those people on Zach's "donor list" of enthusiastic buyers. I will take another look to see if I can find forum, but I doubt it exists.
I have located contact info for a Zach Powell living in Dallas, Georgia. That is not too far from the listed address for King's Way Press. If any aggrieved party wants it, please message me.
He must scan this board. Just got a newsletter in the mail this morning. A tale of woe and audits, lost limitation pages, and binder snafu's. Poker Night is delayed because of Ray Garton's medical condition, as the book isn't finished yet. It's a rather long email. I could copy/paste it here (if it's not against board rules) should anyone want to read it.

Please do! Any contact is good. My thought always was to make sure all is on the up and up. No doubt publishing is way more trouble than anyone can imagine...
Here's the first part...the second half lists upcoming books and such & I could post it if need be. Hope Nanci is OK with taking up all this space I see H posted the last newsletter so I guess I'm probably in the clear. You might want to sign up for the newsletter as it appears people don't seem to be able to get any answers thru email.
Dear Collector, News and updates that have been a long time in coming!
2013 ended as a rough year, 2014 will be much better for KWP!
New staff coming to KWP!
New titles and several previously announced titles coming soon!
Please remember to use our current email address when contacting us!
It is good to be finally writing this overdue email. There are a lot of reasons why you haven't heard from KWP for long while.
None of those reasons involve closure or discontinuing the press!
2013 started out as a banner year for King's Way Press, but ended up as a little bit of a nightmare.
I changed the way I did business in 2013. With the success of four previous titles behind me, I took on the monumental task of trying to pump out several titles at once. This is a LOT of work, and a departure from my previous method of "one book at a time, until each title is complete". Given that I have historically been a one-man show, I would have been better served to maintain the slow but steady pace.
I did manage to get all the titles ready for print. Then things went off the rails.
Starting with KWP's two upcoming Steven Savile titles, things started getting hairy. The signature pages for both books were sent to Sweden to be signed. They were then mailed back to the US. After what seemed like a more than sufficient amount of time, I inquired with the author concerning the whereabouts of the pages only to learn they were shipped back to Sweden by the USPS for an unknown reason!
Of course, we arranged for them to be reshipped and Mr Savile was more than willing to oblige. Inexplicably, they were returned to Sweden a second time. You can't make this stuff up.
So, now the pages are on their way back again.
As if that were not trouble enough, we received our advance copies of several other titles. What is bad about that?
The outer books looked phenomenal! That is where my happiness took a nosedive. After inspecting the entirety of the books inside and out, I found multiple problems. In each of the books, the vendor the printer uses for page gilding forgot to place a parchment paper sheet between the color art and the page in front. The result was the color art pages sticking to the pages in directly in front of them. This caused the color art to pull away and stick when the pages were separated. As if this wasn't bad enough, some of the titles had pages that were in the wrong order.
I had two options. One was to cut the color pages and pages that were in the wrong order out and have the affected pages reprinted and reinserted into the books. The other option was to have the books reprinted from scratch.
The pros and cons of each option:
While cutting the pages out and replacing them would be easier and faster by far, the books would face a lot more handling and abuse. As any collector can tell you, the more you handle a leather-bound limited edition book with gilded page edges, the more likely damage is to occur to the binding or delicate gilding. While reprinting the books from scratch takes months longer (our books are hand-bound & stitched), the end result will be a fresher, undamaged, and better product with less chance of damage from excessive handling.
After careful consideration, I knew there was only one real choice. Our collectors and our authors deserve the best finished products available and I don't think the first option could possibly result in a product we can all be proud of.
The printer is currently working on rectifying the issues now and I expect to hear back from them shortly with an update on when I can expect to see the final product. As soon as I know when to expect them, I will post that information.
As for why I have not posted more recently:
Initially, I decided to take most of the months of November and December off, instead of engaging in the heavy promotion most businesses do over the holidays. In previous years, I have put out multiple newsletters and promoted sales during that time period with little increase in total sales overall.
After reviewing the newsletter "open rates" of holiday period emails from previous years, I found the holiday emails actually were opened by a much smaller number of people than our newsletters during non-holiday periods. So, I opted out of the "please buy my ridiculously discounted products" hullabaloo for the 2013 holiday season.
I had initially intended to post a newsletter in early January, 2014 and after several printer delays I had hoped to have great news to pass on.
Then what I call the "second wave" hit. I received a letter from the IRS wanting to audit my 2011 and 2012 tax returns.
If you have never experienced this delight, I sincerely hope you never do.
The long and short of it was that nearly three months after the nightmare began (three months of sometimes six hrs a day going through each sale one buy one), the IRS concluded everything was above board and I owed no additional taxes. That is great news, but that three months robbed me of energy and time to work on KWP.
During this time, we also experienced a death in the immediate family AND I experienced a scary personal illness.
I also received the books that should have lifted my spirits and instead dealt me another crushing blow.
I won't lie to you, this time was one of darkness and was a near soul-crushing experience. I sank to a depth of depression I have never known before.
I tell you this not in hopes of sympathy, but rather for your information. Do with it what you will.
I have heard recent rumblings that KWP was going out of business.
I assure you, that couldn't be further from the truth.
I have chalked 2013 up to a rough learning experience. I had some growing pains, made some mistakes, and had some really bad fortune.
Now to move forward! Great things are coming. Read on for more details on changes coming to KWP and our future plans!
Sincerely,
Zach Powell New Staff Coming On Board Soon!
In order to help alleviate some of the workload of answering emails and the more mundane tasks of a small press publisher, I am bringing on board my very own "Mindy" (those who deal with CD will get this reference). This will free up more time for me to be dedicated solely to our books. She will start next month.
In addition, I am also bringing on some help in the proofreading/formatting/editing department. This will also help me increase productivity.
I also have tossed around the idea of having some of my collectors participate in the editing/proofreading stages of the books. Anyone interested can email me for more details.
These changes should allow me to decrease the start to finish time for our titles.
This is great news and I am excited to make these positive changes! KWP Email Addresses
For well over a year and in multiple newsletters I have made note of the "new" KWP email addresses and website, yet I have continued to receive emails from the old email addresses and I have been getting regular inquiries at the old website.
Part of the blame for the confusion was my own. No matter how many times I tried to strip the old email addresses from newsletters, it has continued to reappear and has also been coming up as a "reply to" address to our newsletters. After a long time trying, the issue is finally resolved.
I also permanently deactivated the old website and email addresses in February. This perhaps help to encourage the "KWP is closing" rumors.
Among the other actions I am engaged in to further enhance customer experiences with KWP, I am also having a new, more user friendly website designed!
These are more changes that will help streamline operations and allow me to keep my focus where it needs to be, on publishing books!
Here are the two primary email addresses for King's Way Press:
I know many of you have wondered what the status of Poker Night by Ray Garton is.
As most of you know, Ray was stricken with throat cancer last year. He is recovering from his surgery and treatments, but the recovery is slower than he would like.
Ray is committed to finishing Poker Night as soon as he can. We spoke just recently and he is working to make this one of his best novels ever.
With the production values we intend to invest in this book, it WILL be his most impressive title yet from a production standpoint and it will have one of the lowest limitations for a Garton title ever!
If you have ordered a copy already, know that your copy is secure. If not, you might want to. This book will be sold out probably within hours of it hitting our warehouse!
I will be posting a couple of chapters of Poker Night soon and I have asked Alex McVey to do the artwork. I should have some examples of his work on the first few chapters soon! Help A KWP Collector & Get Free Books For Life!
We have a collector who needs a little help. He doesn't want to, but needs to part with his KWP Lifetime Regal Signed Limited Edition Subscription.
Most of you know how these subscriptions work, so I won't bore you with the details. Anyone wanting more information can contact me at the email address below.
Please note this offer does include ALL previously published KWP titles, including the hard to find Dracula Regal Signed Limited Edition!
That means you will get $455 in books immediately (and I will throw in a few extras----maybe a lettered or several trade editions---for the person who purchases this).
Remember, we aren't ever offering subscriptions again, so this is probably the ONLY chance to get one if you are interested!
Lifetime Regal Signed Limited Edition Subscription $1000
If you have any questions about the subscriptions, you may email me at publisher@kwp-books.com
Don't forget, we are just a couple of weeks away from announcing several news titles we have started working on!

This actually sounds positive to me. I hope the issues get ironed out and Zach keeps on publishing! Not sure that I want to put any money down.............but that's just me. Hearing from Ray Garton would be big.
This kind of thing happens all the time, in all manner of businesses.
I once got laid off because a company I worked for launched a new product, the supplier's materials were faulty, lots of stuff got returned, the bank got cold feet and pulled the plug and a thriving business died in the space of about two months.
I'm so sorry things got tough for everyone involved and my thoughts go out to them. Here's to recovery.
Got a new email from KWP recently........a short synopsis follows:
Quick Update On KWP Titles!
As you know from our last newsletter, the end of 2013 and the first half of 2014 was not very good to KWP to say the least. As promised, we have rebounded and righted the ship! We have hired new help, fired the printer we were using and located one that we believe will help to make our books even better than before. At this time we have the proof copies of 3 titles due to be on my desk in 12 short days. Once the proofs are approved, the printer will have the remainder of the run completed within a couple of weeks. This means we are shooting to have some new books in the warehouse and shipping with 3-4 weeks. The remaining announced titles are only slightly behind the rest! We are also pleased to announce that we still maintain our commitment to publishing the highest quality books around. Just like our old printer, the new printer is an American owned company that uses the highest quality materials available. We will never cut corners by compromising on quality. I can assure you that the wait for these books will be well worth it!
Additionally, we have several unannounced titles that are in the middle stages of production. We are going to begin putting out regular newsletters each month with sample chapters of some of those works! We are excited about these new books! One is a werewolf novel, one is about a park in the middle of nowhere that is a cover for something sinister and one is an original vampire novel. Thanks for hanging in there with us as we once again re-solidify our place as one of he premiere small presses in the business! New Warehouse & Offices For KWP! Even when things don't appear to be moving, we are doing a lot of work behind the scenes!
Just a quick reminder that the old King's Way Press email addresses and website have been deactivated and are no longer in service. With the addition of the new email address for Chris, the following are the email addresses that should be used when contacting KWP.
Ray Garton & Poker Night & Artwork I heard from Ray Garton recently and he is feeling better and is dedicated to finishing up Poker Night! I will be posting a couple of chapters of Poker Night next week! I will also have some teaser artwork from Alex McVey to show off soon! ************************* As a side note...I was one of those 'lucky souls' who purchased a lifetime trade sub from Full Moon Press when it was offered. I received ONE book before the press fell. Being out of town with no internet access when it happened I was late to the news and figured I just lost out. I made a jacket for that one book, put the title "The $350 Trade" on it and it sits on my shelf to remind me of my folly. Zack stated when he took over the press that he would honor all open subs. Don't know how many people are in the same situation as I am but Zack has sent me a trade of each published book so far. I've never had any contact with him & was actually surprised when each book has arrived. I guess I should email and thank him for not forgetting about me (and others in the same boat). I wish him luck going forward, hopefully things will smooth out for him.
