Has anyone seen it? Thoughts?

Saw it Saturday. I haven't read the book.

I expected a bit more spectacle, judging from the commercials. I mean, a LOT more spectacle.

Speaking as someone who has never cared much for zombies, I appreciated that the story was more than just a ragtag band of survivors holed up somewhere and trying to survive the attacking hordes. Finally, a zombie movie with an actual story. Or at least the beginning of one. There was no real climax to speak of, but after 116 minutes, I didn't mind because what had already come before was exciting enough. I thought it came across as a prologue, definitely a part 1 of a larger story. I read this morning a sequel will be coming. I hope the sequel, and any further sequels that follow, can tell interesting stories without resorting to the tired, not frightening in the first place, plots of just about every other zombie story I've ever come in contact with.

About that ending . . . if they made a point to go back and re-do the ending, I'm curious to see just how bad was the original ending.

The original ending had them fighting in Moscow. The Russians used slaves to fight zombies. It didn't screen well with higher ups. They brought in new writers (the guys from LOST) to rewrite the ending and then hired yet ANOTHER screen writer to rewrite as they re-shot the last part of the movie.

Haven't read the book. Don't know about the movie. May go see it as a matinee.

I've read the book, actually reading it the second time. The concept of zombies walking across the oceans without being attacked by predators is kind of what I consider a major flaw. Plus, in the movie they removed India and Pakistan wiping each other out with nukes because they didn't want to offend them, I guess. And I read that instead of them wanting the lead character as a historian working for the UN, Brad Pitt wanted to be a hero figure. Most people I know want to see the movie so that's a good thing for the movie since many people never pay attention to critics anyway. I also read it will take 350 million to reach the break even point.
