Seems like I'm reading a well-known author for the first time on a regular basis this year. It's amazing to me that there are so many of these writers I had yet to read, but it's cool knowing I've expanded my horizons.
Rick Hautala Mary SanGiovanni Sarah Langan F. Paul Wilson Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child John Skipp (currently reading) Peter Straub Charlee Jacob Poppy Z. Brite Neil Gaiman Ramsey Campbell Melanie Tem Thomas Ligotti Peter Crowther
I may be missing one or two, but still - that's a lot of first-time authors! How about the rest of you?
I'm gonna say George Martin. Yes, I tried to read Game of Thrones when it first came out and couldn't get through the first chapter. But now I see what all the fuss was about. Outside of that, most of my reading has been either about Thailand, muay thai/muay boran/krabi krabong, or about buddhism. Plus my school books.

Horror--Sarah Langan Mary SanGiovanni Matthew Warner (though I had read his short story and essays in Eulogies, Blood Born was the first novel)
Thrillers--Boyd Morrison Andrew Grant (if you like Burn Notice, you'd like this writer--an R-rated, slightly amoralistic Burn Notice)
I'd put Jack Rogan up there, but found out at Necon he's really Christopher Golden. (And yes, Nanci, I did read the new review of the second Rogan book here on HW, but I knew before I read that.)
I'd say last year was probably a bigger year for me discovering new writers. You've got some great ones on your list, Craig. I need to read some of the Pendergast novels, so I might catch up on those soon.
I've tried Game Of Thrones and couldn't get past page 50. I might eventually get back to it.
If you're visiting Horror World and you haven't read any George R. R. Martin (aka Railroad), I suggest skipping Game of Thrones and going straight to the novel Fevre Dream, and/or the novelette Sandkings. Both terrific horror stories.

I've never read James A. Moore. But I will rectify that this year. Just picked up a paperback of his at a used book store in Florida. Can't remember what it is called though.

Trent Jamieson Dan Wells Don D'Ammassa Matthew Stokoe Michael Louis Calvillo Adam-Troy Castro David Greske Lincoln Crisler Jay Bonansinga Lee Thomas Lee Thompson Brett Williams
I actually hunt down new authours, trying to get at least 1 a month, started keeping track last year:
2011: (so far as there will be more) Minnion Mamatas Preston and Child TM Wright Ray Banks Gerard Houraner whoever is Richard Castle Jay Lake Chris Evans Sydney Williams Joe Schreiber James Newman Joe Nassie Steve Vernon (read shorts last year) Col Buchanan Bill Crider Massie Maberry Aaron Rosenberg
2010: Richard Kadrey Skipp and Spector Scott Nicholson Dan Abnett Jeffrey Thomas William Miekle Robert Davies Mitchel Scanlon Nate Kenyon Ken Bruen Andy Deane Joe Abercrombie Michael Marshal Doug Bradley Lucy Snyder Nicholas Kaufman Gagliani Ian C Esslemont Sarrantonio C David Conner F Paul Wilson Cherie Preist Gifune Darren Shan Graham McNeil
and if i go any further back i will be annoying people.
Of the well known authors I've read for the first time this year (embarrassingly enough) the list includes:
Jack Ketchum Tim Curran Bryan Smith Ed Gorman Steven Savile Rick Hautala Kealan Patrick Burke Gary Braunbeck
Of the soon to be well known authors I've read for the first time this year I must mention these:
Paul Tremblay James Newman Matthew Warner Adam Golaski Pearce Hansen Matt Hults
I've been trying to vary my author reads this year-I don't think I've read more than one book of any author yet (except a co-authored book) so I know I'll be adding to this list.

After Life by Jaron Lee Knuth Everdead by Rio Youers Fireworks by James A. Moore Dark Hollow by Brian Keene These are the authors I've read for the first time this year. I can't decide which one I liked best, but I know I'll be reading more by them. After I finish the book I'm reading now, I plan to read the Halloween books by Al Sarrantonio. I don't think I've read any of his books before. I really look forward to those.

crap, crap and crap. well, I'm gonna read them anyway, since I paid for them and could never hope to re-coup my money. Maybe I won't think they are that bad. I really appreciate your input and will count myself warned. Thanks y'all.
