Thanks. We've got photos of her doing what she did best. Being a butt. Her favorite hobbies: Getting into my wife's dirty laundry and taking off with her panties (one pair will forever remain hidden from us); making pillow forts she could sleep in; picking my wife's nose; or begging for pizza crusts and Taco Bell wrappers. She LOVED Taco Bell wrappers. Not the food, just the wrappers. She would walk around the house for hours with the Taco Bell wrappers. We'll never figure that out because she never ate them. She'd sleep with them or try to bury them, but never ate them.

We're happy to have had her and to provide her with a very loving home. We rescued her from a very bad sitution and we loved her and she loved us. She was The Princess. Now we have to get used to not having her around. Our house doesn't feel right without her.
I also upheld my promise that I would hold her in the end.

That was taken about a week after I bought the Jeep. She was really happy about the car ride. The destination; not so much. We went to the vet to update her shots. I had to carry her in because she refused to walk. She was mad at me until I stopped at Mickey D's and got her a plan hamburger.

As anti-PETA as I have been, I will give them props for helping me out when no one else would. I spent over two hours on Saturday trying to find a place that would put her to sleep. Even the "emergency" vets wanted me to make an appointment to bring her in. My last call was to PETA and not even a minute after I left a voice message they called me back and had us meeting them at their office a half hour later. And they didn't charge us, saying that the money would be better spent on her cremation and on an urn for her. they also held onto her until arrangements could be made. So, though I may have major issues with their higher-ups, they are good people.

I've been rabidly anit-PETA for years. Especially when it came to light about their "adoption" policy and the court case in which employees would euthanise and dispose of animal bodies in dumpsters (a policy that is actually widespread and acknowledged from being from the top). PETA has a horrible track record for treatment of animals; almost on par with, or in some cases - even worse than, the very industries they oppose. Last year, they took in almost 2350 animals. They transferred 65 animals to other shelters, adopted out 45 animals, and euthanised the rest. PETA opposes no-kill shelters and has sponsored legislation to outlaw those facilities. The PETA hierarchy can do a lot of good, but instead, they choose to be pain in the ass attention whores. The local SPCAs run on a tenth of what PETA's animal "welfare" budget is (last I looked PETA's budget was around $45 million and the three SPCAs I know of were a combined $3-4 million and they adopt out around 70% of the animals they get). I was in a book store when she gave a book signing and I left in disgust.

Went to the beach today. Spread some of Phoebe's ashed where she used to play. I never realized until tonight, just how big an impact she had on my marriage.

Pets are like children. People who don't have pets don't understand that. But they are.

I work part time all next week. I worked last week too. I don't know if this will lead to a permanent job but part time is better then no time even if the gas will kill me.

Thank God for smoke alarms. I put the wrong burner on on the stove and my tea kettle had flames coming from under it when I ran in. Scratch one tea kettle, but I am very lucky. I seem to be lost without my wife around.

Craig - Hello speaks truth. It gets worse as you get older too. They become even more important fixtures in your life.

Tony - glad you're OK. I've done that a few times myself. I can't tell you how many tea pots I destroyed before we started buying the whistling ones. Oh - has anyone put eggs on to boil and forgotten about them?

I have to say that I have a dog and a child..and while my dog isn't EXACTLY like my child it is like my child. I have to take care of her like I do my child. I had to potty train her, I had to teach her manners. I have to make sure she had foods food to eat, I have to make sure she goes to the doctor and gets her shots, or take her when she is sick. I live on an apartment so of she is sick (throwing up, going to the bathroom ) I stay home from work with her so I can take her outside because I don't have a yard where I can just throw her and keep her and I can't have her messing the carpets. I have to make sure she's walked every morning no matter how late I am for work and I have to make sure to grrrrrrr home right after work to walk and feed her before I can go anywhere else. If I want to go on vacation somewhere I have to pay someone to watch her if I can't take her with me. As she gets older I have to make sure she has the right vitamins for her bones and joints. I have to make sure she has plenty of exercise, even if i'm sick or just tired. When we first found her as a stay 6 years ago she was sick with giardia and all kinds of worms. We spent over 600 dollars getting her tests and medicine, her shots, then getting her spayed (because spaying your females lowers their chances of getting breast cancer and neutering your males lowers their risk of testicular cancer) and we spend money every year for her heart worm pills and her frontline flea and tick stuff and her rabies shots. So she is like my child, I have to take care of her like my child. I still wuv you craig but I just had to put my 2 cents in

I've loved dogs with my heart and soul, and when I lost them, I was crushed. But it would be nothing like losing one of my children.

Yeah that's why I said it is not exactly like having children but in alot of ways it is. I would never put my dog above my child and my feelings of course are different for my dog than for my child. But for alot of people taking care of their dog (pet) is like having to take care of a child, that pet becomes a family member and you would do almost anything for that animal.

Shari, I know exactly what you're saying. Although Ive always had cats, so they're not quite as much work (no walks, no potty training, etc.). Your point is well taken.

I guess I was simply thinking about how I feel about them emotionally. Tony said it perfectly. I was heartbroken when one of my cats had to be put to sleep years ago, but it wasn't even remotely close to how I would feel if something ever happened to Emma.

There's an easy answer to the tea kettle problem - buy an electric kettle. They switch off automatically. I drink gallons of tea, so one of those is a must at our house.

Eggs however, I can't remember how many I've blown to pieces on the stove by forgetting them. I can certainly add 'Pan Burner' and 'Egg Exploder' to my resume. I use a timer with an annoying, shrill alarm, now. That seems to work. Why I didn't use one in the first place I do not know.
