Counting high school and college I had to read Gatsby five times. It never gets any better. Made me want to stick my head in the microwave!

I like Steinbeck and Twain. Hemingway, too, for the most part. And one novel I read in high school that I didn't think I'd like, but I really enjoyed, was Moby Dick by Melville.

There was just something about Gatsby that left me cold.

I normally don't finish a novel if I feel it's awful. So, since the question is what is the worst book you've read, I'd go with . This was one of the novels churned out during the horror boom of the mid 80's to mid 90's. While Leisure and TOR had their share of clunkers during that time, there were a greater number of clunkers printed in the Zebra horror line by Kensington books. This was the worst of the worst that I actually finished reading.

I'm sure few, if any, here have heard of this book. That's a good thing

The worst book I ever read (and could only manage a single page) was Finnegan's Wake by James Joyce. Jesus... where was I on that one? The penultimate example of self indulgent tripe ever to grace the pages of any book anywhere for all freakin' time!!! And I don't think I'm overstating things either.

I double dog dare anyone to defend this book. Seriously. Try. I'll wait.
