I don't blame you. I watched that movie without really knowing it was about. It was only after the shocker that I went investigating it on the net. I might have passed too, or maybe curiousity would have gotten the best of me.

I'll still see <i>Redacted</i>. In general I like Brian De Palma as a director.

Just picked up the two-disc set of <i>The Mist</i>. On disc two you can watch <i>The Mist</i> in black and white. That was how Frank Darabont originally wanted to release it, so it's cool he was able to do it on the DVD.

The Army population is a refection of our general population and there are always going to be some bad characters. Having said that, as the wife of an Army Commander, watching an Army bash fest is not my idea of a good time.

I would stay away from it for sure, Laurel. The movie slyly implicated that the beheading of an American soldier that was broadcasted on the internet had justifiable means. I got the impression that it even moralized it. Anyway, I never thought that a movie could infuriate me to that degree. I hated the message, but I give De Palma thumbs up on how he set the whole thing.

I think that the message was delivered in full, even if I disagree with it.

Let me know what you think Atomic Punch! I would love to hear another opinion from a person that has had a chance to watch it. Think first half of FULL METAL JACKET meets BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. Yeah, it is that F'ed up!

Okay, I moved it up on my Netflix queue (right behind <i>Pink Flamingos</i>!), so it'll be later this week/weekend hopefully?

In 2004 my husband Bill was sent to Fort Lewis, WA for a year to run a medical clinic at Madigan Army Hospital and conduct training. At one of the training weekends he and his troops ventured out to Yakima Proving Ground so they could train with Hummers, Bradleys, big guns, etc. In the evenings they settled into coed barricks. One night Bill gets a frantic call on his radio for assistance. A female soldier has been attacked in her bed by a male soldier. Bill runs to assist, and finds that in fact two females have been assaulted and the pervert has fled through a shower window. Well, let me tell you, the hunt was on. They eventually caught the creep (not many places to hide at Yakima) and he is now serving in Leavenworth.

My point... occasionally a bad soldier will turn up, but it shouldn't reflect on the majority of fine men and women serving for little pay, little recognition and a lot of crap from folks like De Palma. My two coppers.

The good guys in the military don't take it as an insult. They want the bad apples out more than anyone. They take bad behavior of any kind very seriously. The only time I see Bill really angry is when a soldier screws up.
