Record-setting pilot dies at 26

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AP) -- Vicki Van Meter, who made headlines in the 1990s for piloting a plane across the United States at age 11 and from the U.S. to Europe at age 12, died in an apparent suicide. She was 26.

Gosh that is sad. I remember her when she did that, since I am afraid of flying I thought she was one brave (and tough) young kid.

I never understood suicide. I used to think, "why can't people just do something else like move away, or seek help". But the older I get, and the more people I've met who suffered from depression, I now realize that depression is so invasive it doesn't let you think about anything else other than whats troubling you. I also believe its chemical and some times medication helps.

I've never had derpession, but family members have. It is so important for others to hlep someone out who is battling it, because sometimes, they can't help themselves. Rest in peace young lady.
