This is my first post here on my message board at Horror World, so please forgive me if it's not your cup of tea... I've made the preliminary ballot before (short story) but this is my debut novel and I'm really anxious to find out whether this time I advance to the Stoker nomination round and we are at 3 hours and counting til the final votes come in and then, of course, a day or two until all are tallied. There are some really terrific first novels out there, so at least I can feel good about being among such great company... On the other hand, after years and years of hard work, I'd love to make the next round. Even if I didn't win, this would be a huge valorization of my efforts and incentive to keep pushing despite problems with agents, editors, publishers (as we have all had.) So many of us have worked without accolades or even decent pay. Charles Dickens (who was a millionaire in the 19th century--there's nothing like being prolific) wrote for a penny a word. Not that we want necessarily to be millionaires or famous, but how is it possible that many of us (myself included) are still working (more than 150 years later) for a penny a word? Or asking our publishers to pay us and our editors to support us in terms of assisting us on projects and making suggestions and our agents to keep us informed about the status of current work? I have no idea if I will make it to the next round; I know that the work is solid. If making it to the next round gets me a bit more respect in terms of editors, agents and publishers, I will be more than happy to share that good fortune with other writers. See you on the flip side~ Lisa |

I'll be surprised if you don't make it to the next round. The Gentling Box is a wonderful book! |

Lis, I won't only be surprised, I'll be shocked if GB doesn't make it to the next round. Gentling Box is the best novel I've had the pleasure to read in quite some time!! |

First off, Lisa - thanks for the invite to your new board! (And it's really, really embarrassing to admit that I hadn't been to the Horror World forums before...) Like everyone else, I'll be surprised if THE GENTLING BOX doesn't make the final ballot. But, just to clarify one thing: The final ballot probably won't be announced until close to April 1st. The reason for that is that we have to give the Stoker Additions Jury time to add in their choices as well. I know, it's horrible that the suspense gets dragged out even further! |

I'm right there with you Lisa! At the risk of sounding cliche, it would be a tremendous honor just to be nominated! I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for both of us!! ___________________ Gabrielle S. Faust Eternal Vigilance www.gabriellefaust.com |
