I recently read Folly, your story in the Read Your Fears anthology and was, as usual, blown away, but then what's not to like about swamp monster stories. Loved Pandora as well. I'm curious about the inspiration here, was it the creature, the setting, or something more aloof?
Actually, it started with the house ... which is an actual place. I was doing a Discovery Channel series at Universal Studios in Orlando. Basically like being in hell. I wrote something like 300 episodes over a ten week period. (Yes, chained to the keyboard.) Then one night I escaped and got very very drunk -- there's a murky period here -- then I found myself in a gnu (which is something like a canoe with an outboard motor) on a river I hadn't known existed, trying to outrun what I thought were sharks but which turned out to be dolphins ... and suddenly there was this astonishing house. On an island no less.
Everything else just sort of fell into place. (A series involving those characters is sort of percolating in the back of my mind.)
