JUNGLE by Brett McBean JUNGLE: n 1 any dense or tangled thicket or growth 2 a place of intense competition or ruthless struggle for survival We’re trapped in a world of modern convenience, of steel giants and oceans of concrete. For the most part we’re content to live in this colourless existence. But we’ve paid for our comfortable lifestyles. Instead of looking out our windows and seeing a forest of trees, we see a forest of buildings; instead of a clear flowing river, we see rapids of asphalt and an endless stream of vehicles cascading along its surface. Smog chokes the once clean air. Noise pollution drowns out the birdsong. It’s a jungle out there, but not in the way nature intended. Which is why nature has decided to take back control. Welcome to the new world. A world in which the land has reverted back to jungle, where you no longer fight for a parking space, but for your life; where supermarkets have become places of savagery and your next-door neighbour looks at you not as a friend, but as perhaps their next meal. A world where survival is reserved only for the fittest…and for the cunning. Welcome to the jungle. In a series of three novellas, Brett McBean takes a look at life in the modern world and turns it inside out. He transforms the common into the uncommon, the banal into the unreal, as everything from a multi-level car park, to a typical suburban sprawl become dangerous hunting grounds. Forget TV dinners and 50% discounts at your local Target - it's a fight for survival as nature takes over your homes and shopping centres. |

Do they have Target stores in Australia? Do they sell TV dinners? I think my local Target just added a refrigerated section... ha ha. This series sounds excellent! |

Just to add, I can divulge that along with each 'jungle' release they'll be a bonus chapbook containing a tale within this mythos, each from an author of Brett's choosing. Steve. |

Having cleared this with Brett, For the bonus chapbook, name an author who you'd like to see tackle a story based in McBean's JUNGLE. |

Can we name more than one? ha ha. It would be a long "chapbook," but these would make for an excellent set of authors: Brian Keene, James A. Moore, Nate Southard, Ronald Kelly, Kealan Patrick Burke, Jeff Strand, Simon Clark, Gene O'Neill, John R. Little, Norman Prentiss, Chet Williamson, Tom Piccirilli, William D. Carl, Rick Hautala, Al Sarrantonio, Brian Freeman, Norman Partridge, and Ray Garton! And then get Alan M. Clark to do the cover! Maybe some interiors by Ketih Minnnion, Alex McVey, Glenn Chadbourne, and Jill Bauman too.... and..... I actually restrained myself listing all that. |

Although I'd welcome any chapbook from the authors named by Ant, I see this as a great opportunity to read a story from someone who hasn't broken into the USA market yet Keep Smiling, Jan (btw - can't help but feel that is dancing with at least two left feet, so . . . . ) |

You guys are making me divulge all my secrets Bonus chapbook will be released as a double bill - one story from an 'established' writer & one from someone new to the scene that Brett digs. Okay, happy now there's no more surprises under the tree Steve. |

Really looking forward to this series of three books. If you order a softcover do you get a free chapbook with it or is it just the lettered books? Jason. |
