DEATHFLASH is a little over half sold out.
Thanks for the support,

Post subject:  Re: Gene O'Neill

I just returned the signed contracts for a limited/signed hardback and a deluxe edition of TASTE OF TENDERLOIN
to Dark Regions Press. More on pub date, art, additional introduction, added story etc. soon. As an extended part
of the deal we talked about a novella from me and perhaps two of my closest writing friends in one loosely themed book.
I've actually roughed out my contribution, RUSTING CHICKENS, and sent it on to the two shadowy writers for inspiration to
get them rolling (actually to see if they want to be involved).
I think if this actually comes together, it would be sooner than later, maybe mid-2011. We'll see. More on all this
soon.

Sounds real good, Gene.

Now who could these shadowy writers be?

Post subject:  Re: Gene O'Neill

John: Those two anonymous writers loved RUSTING CHICKENS. And they are inspired to participate in a roughly military-themed collection of novellas. But we may be shopping this for the best deal--so no commitments to any publisher yet. We'll see.

Might one of those "shadowy authors" be a man from Canada way?

Won't confirm that. But I just talked to him, and he said he was freezing his ass off--20 below there.

I think DEATHFLASH is three-quarters pre-ordered. So it might
make a pretty good dent in being sold out before publication.
If you are straddling the fence, might be a good time to break
open that secret piggy bank or put it on your xmas list.
Thank you all for the support.
And have a great Holiday Season!

Upcoming in 2011:
DEATHFLASH should be released soon, followed by the lettereds for DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW and JADE and the boxed set of SHADOW, DEATHFLASH, and DOUBLE JACK, all from Bad Moon Books. Two other projects are scheduled for tentative release by them, a novel, NOT FADE AWAY (an expansion of one of the TASTE OF TENDERLOIN stories), and a short story collection of all my recent (last 5 years) uncollected best stuff--this keeps expanding to I think it is now over 90k words without even an intro or story blurbs.

Sideshow Press during the next several months should release a trade paperback of DOUBLEJACK and a chapbook of three futuristic Cal Wild tales, CHRONICLES OF THE DOUBLE SPARROW.

Dark Regions Press some time in the spring will release both a s/l and deluxe hard back of the Stoker winning TASTE OF TENDERLOIN, with an added 'loin story ("Black Tar/Red Alien,") and two added illuminating introductions by Joe McKinney and Norm Rubenstein, and a slightly expanded afterword. I've seen the cover art by Wayne Miller--spectacular!

I've recently finished a novella, RUSTING CHICKENS, which will probably be published alone in tpb, then down the line collected with two novellas by a pair of my crime partners. Waiting for a contract before announcing the publisher.

In addition, I think I have four or maybe five good short stories scheduled in anthologies and magazines, including two favorites, "Sacred Mountain" and "Graffiti Sonata."

I'm working hard on the novel THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH, and hope to wrap it up in two months.

Tony: I understand where you are coming from.
But I thank *all* the specialty press who publishes my stuff (and those who haven't...yet). After watching the top pro publication markets radically shrink over the last few years, the specialty press has picked up the slack, especially with long fiction. In fact, a case could be made that Bad Moon Books, Delirium, Dark Regions Press, BLP, Thunderstorm Press, Sideshow Press, Cemetery Dance, and several others have actually saved the novelette and novella. The magazines and mass market anthologies publish long fiction *only* by big names now. The specialty press probably publishes the best long fiction available, regardless the writer's reputation. My opinion.
So despite the relative costly editions, I'm extremely grateful for the publishing opportunities offered me by the specialty press.

This is a first. I've finished RUSTING CHICKENS, first readers like it, it's been accepted by a publisher. Saw the brilliant cover artwork
yesterday... But I haven't signed an acceptable contract yet. Ha! Just a minor detail. I think it will come out in a very reasonably priced TPB and
e-book first. Then it will be collected with novellas from two minor writers (nobody's heard of them so I won't mention their names) and published in two swanky hard back editions. (If everything goes according to plan). More to announce when contracts are executed.
Best,
Gene

Yep, DEATHFLASH has finally been released.
And it looks like NOT FADE AWAY is coming along right behind it.
I signed the sig sheets today, saw the cover artwork, solicited a blurb/synopsis,
and made a dedication. BMB thinks it will be out for its debut at WHC in Austin in
six weeks or so. I'm excited about this release and reader reaction, as I think NFA
may be my best writing to date.
We'll see.

By now I hope most folks know you have to go directly to the Bad Moon Books site
to pre-order NOT FADE AWAY. Despite all the hubbub over BMB getting dumped from
the Horror Mall site, NFA isn't doing too bad. Maybe 35 or so left unordered. Hopefully,
we'll sell a good number at WHC in Austin at the end of the month--maybe a sell-out by
then for both DEATHFLASH and NOT FADE AWAY..
Thanks for hanging in there everyone,
Gene

I think the book launch at WHC this last weekend was a success for all concerned. There was food, drinks including beer (which kept Gord Rollo from being grouchy), lots of books raffled off--both mine and Joe McKinney's, and I think we sold a ton of books, too.
Thanks for coming and the support,

DOUBLEJACK will be released in time for Killercon this year by Sideshow Press. The earliest Green Hornet and Cato story.
Told in a kind of Roshomon changing point of view. Turned out well.

RUSTING CHICKENS has been turned in, but waiting for signed contracts until announcing publisher. Parts of this are topically
relevant to recent events by the SEALS, a small Marine force Recon team crossing into the North Waziristan of Pakestan on a covert mission.

Both books will be affordable, I think under $14, and decent reads I think.

Just read your story in the new Dark Discoveries Mag. You are a master at causing chills in a reader with subtlety and an economy of words. And even though readers will guess how it will end from almost the start, you have a way of making the journey more than worthwhile. A really good job on this one Gene.

I'm sure everyone who got the mag. has read it Gene.

It was nice to read your work in an affordable format, and I would recommend this story to others. As I've mentioned, you have a unique style of writing, one that I've enjoyed reading ever since I first started with your Burden Of Indigo novel.

In fact, I am going to go onto Amazon and see what e-books of yours are available that I have not purchased.

And one last thing, so you have a story on line somewhere that readers can read that is free? I am posting various free stories by authors over in the Cellar here so members can sample different author's work.

Thanks Gene!

Tony: I just requested the return of digital rights for all my stories on Fictionwise--50 + stories, several novellas, and two novels.
I'm involved in a project with Gord Rollo to get a book of collaborations up at Amazon.Com very soon. At
the same time Gord, Mike McBride, Tom Moran, and myself are getting SIDESHOW EXHIBITS ready to
go up on Amazon. Gord, Mike, and I will eventually put up BEHIND ENEMY LINES (the DRP project), as you suspected elsewhere, and individually
we all have been keeping/getting returned digital rights, so down the road there will be a lot of our stuff available
at Amazon, etc.

As far as free fiction. I posted this short story up over on the Crypt some time ago. "Shadow of the Dark Angel"
eventually led to a full novel. Check out the story.

Best,
Gene
