FIONA & GRAMS, the chapbook up for pre-order from Sideshow Press made the best seller list
over at Horror Mall after being up only a couple of days at the end of July. I haven't heard anything
lately about pre- orders but it is a limited edition, so if you have any interest, this might be a good time to check it out.
Both stories are dear to my heart. Fiona is my granddaughter's name, and the story which takes place in the early 19th century is a homage of sorts to her (several illustrations are extrapolations from a photo of Fiona). I was raised by my grandparents, and much of the story "Grams" is true...well, perhaps not some of the more gruesome elements.
Thanks for the support. Important now as never before as we see long-time publishers withdrawing from the fray.

Tony: Not sure if you East Coast fans will wait longer than we do on the West Coast. maybe not, although
Billie and Tom know I'd like to have copies for Killercon, which begins around the 26th of August. We'll see.
In any event "Fiona" is a kind of Halloween or harvest story, so it can be enjoyed for the next couple of months I hope.
Thanks for the support.

The wonderful Billie Moran has e-mailed me that I should indeed have FIONA & GRAMS copies in hand before leaving for Killercon.
So I hope some Killercon attendees pick up a personalized copy (the issue is limited and already signed though).
Thanks for the support,
Gene

Fiona and Grams:

Fiona is a great story; entertaining, thought provoking, and loaded with a folk styling I really come to appreciate from Gene. This is definitely the highlight of the chapbook and I would consider Grams simply as an added bonus story. Great job on Fiona Gene!

Grams...well, I have to digest that one some more. The tale was well told and excellently written, but...I think the stories impact was diluted by its short length and abrupt conclusion. I must say though that the ending of the story really didn't hit me until I thought about it long after I first read it, and only then did it give me chills.

Tony: Wow! You've received, read, absorbed, and commented on FIONA & GRAMS already.
Thank you kindly, sir.
I'm just looking at the chapbook really now, though I received ten copies on Friday while I was at Killercon.
I might add something to Tony's comments on the two stories. Fiona is my granddaughter's name. The illustrations
are extrapolations by Tom Moran from photos that my daughter sent Tom. Fiona was four in the photos. The illustrations are what a very young-looking 11-year-old Fiona might look like. Good work, I think. Grams is autobiographical, about 85% absolutely true, including the stories of Grams eccentricities and the pipe incident. Of course the gruesome mummy incident is only wish fulfillment...but could've happened. And I admit, even though it is subtly foreshadowed along the way and there is some intentional misdirection, I think the ending pays off careful reading without cheating.
Thanks for the great support, Tony.

For those who like hard backs, FIONA & GRAMS combined with Erik Williams'
novella, REVEREND'S POWDER is up for order over at Horror Mall. Two thirds
sold out, I think.

Post subject:  Re: Gene O'Neill

I've been dealing with a family health issue, but am back at the grind. About two thirds finished with THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH (I think it may be a good one). It's the prequel to THE BURDEN OF INDIGO in the CAL WILD SEQUENCE, which ends with all the novellas, novelettes, and short stories collected in CAL WILD--they will appear linked with short narratives in chronological order.
Next out will be DEATHFLASH, a Green Hornet & Cato novel, from BMB. Next month or so. Shortly thereafter BMB will release the lettered boxed set including SHADOW, DF, and a novella DOUBLE JACK. Before the end of the year the lettered of DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING should appear with the bonus Cal Wild story, "Nostalgia." Sometime soon after that--maybe just into 2011--the lettered for JADE will be up with the bonus Cal Wild novelette, THE HUNGRY SKULL. By then I hope to have ZACH finished, a little brush-up on INDIGO completed, and working on the linking narratives for CAL WILD.
VeryrRecently another mass market publisher asked my agent for a look at the 3-book proposal for THE CAL WILD SEQUENCE. Even after requesting a look it takes months to get an answer, and they are not buying much right now. Fingers crossed on that.
I'm hoping to get to WHC in Austin in April next year--finances will determine.
So it goes here on the western front,
Gene

BMB published a signed/limited edition of SHADOW OF THE DARK ANGEL, which is sold out now.
The book began with an expansion from a short story. That short story was never sold anywhere.
So, it's up for free at The Crypt. Anyone interested, here's the link: http://the-crypt.proboards.com/index.cg ... reefiction

TASTE OF TENDERLOIN came out in 2009 only as a trade paperback.
I'm in negotiations to bring it out as both a signed/limited and deluxe
hardback--both reasonably priced at current standards.
More details after I actually see a contract.

Thanks, Tony.

John: I will give you a scoop. There will be a new Tenderloin long short-story included, "Black Tar/Red Alien. In addition to my son's kind of lyrical ode to the Tenderloin there will be a more conventional introduction by a mass market author. A well-known artist, maybe a wrap-around cover... But I still *don't* have a signed contract or advance. So that's all I'll say for now.

Sideshow Press who have just released FIONA & GRAMS in both trade paperback and hard cover now have their own
on-line shop. this will be the place to find my upcoming books with them. If you haven't got a copy of F& G order
one from the site and get a free James Newman chapbook.

Yes, I'm getting better at remembering that kind of stuff.
I was recently talking to a well-known writer, and he was
talking about when we first started, you just wrote, and someone
else worried about promoting the stuff. That's over, even with him,
much less a nobody like me.

Hi all. DEATHFLASH, a new novel is up for preorder at Horror-Mall.com.
It's a signed/limited hardback, art by Steve Gilberts, and sells for $55. I
think they have a lay-away plan if you need it.
DF has some hairy stuff in there about addictions.
Appreciate the support.
