Thanks, John. A little special*dig* in JADE for you, my friend.

I should be signing the tip sheets today for JADE. Have turned
in the bonus for the lettered. More announcements down the
line, perhaps as early as the end of the month, first part of
April.
so it goes,
Gene

I believe that Sideshow Press has the trade paperback copies of SIDESHOW EXHIBITS back from the printer, the hard backs to follow soon. This book includes novellas by myself, Mike McBride, and Gord Rollo--all good work. If you haven't ordered one of the editions you may want to scurry over and do so--only a few of each left.

Also the pre-orders of JADE are going well. DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW and JADE will make a good back-to-back read--they are close in the Cal Wild timeline.

Upcoming soon is a chapbook with two stories, FIONA & GRAMS, from Sideshow Press. And the second Green Hornet and Cato novel, DEATHFLASH, from BMB in August.

I'm working on expanding THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH into the novel, JOURNALS OF THE COLLAPSE. Should have it under control by the end of the year.

Oh, a number of short stories will come out in the latter half of 2010, two in anthologies and one in the magazine DARK DISCOVERIES.

So it goes,
Gene

I hope all this gets me through the year, or else you might have to work just a little bit faster.

Post subject:  Re: Gene O'Neill

John: You are absolutely right. I'm a very slow, plodding writer. Even after I've decided on a novel and begun, it takes me the good part of a year. And when I'm in the critical phase I actually work six-seven days a week...except when it's time to visit grandkids or they come here/planned travel. As I've matured as a writer I find I do more thinking and less actual typing--at least that's a good excuse for daydreaming.
I'm just hoping that I can have the whole Cal Wild trilogy in good shape by the middle of next year, including a brush-up of INDIGO). So for the next year to 18 months I will not be doing much short work.
So it goes,
Gene

Brush up on Indigo???

And that reminds me. My daughter read and liked TCOSZ, but would of liked it longer, so she interested in JOURNALS OF THE COLLAPSE. She asked me about it the other day, so I sent her home with INDIGO to hold her over. I hope she enjoys it.

Post subject:  Re: Gene O'Neill

John: TCOSZ is about doubled in wordage in the new book--actually the first third of the book.
Let me know how THE BURDEN OF INDIGO strikes your daughter.
Best,
Gene

Post subject:  Re: Gene O'Neill

SIDESHOW EXHIBITS is out in the limited trade paperback, and is getting glowing reports. SSP may have a few left.
JADE will be released soon by Bad Moon Books--up for pre-order now. DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW and JADE are very close in the Cal Wild time line, and would make good back to back reads--BMB has some copies of Doc Good's left. FIONA & GRAMS is coming up in the SSP chapbook line. For fans of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," you will probably enjoy FIONA, same background, and, in fact, the story changes the original story line. DEATHFLASH, another Green Hornet & Cato novel will be out hopefully for KIllercon--I plan on attending, my only con this year.
Busy on the expansion of THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH, which I think will be entitled the same. We'll see.
So it goes,
Gene

I had an page over on Brian Keene's message boards, which I understand is closing down. So, Horror World, right here, will be the major spot to hear about all things involving my stories, books, and escapades. Stay tuned...

Tony: I could, someone else has asked, too. But it seems redundant. I've tried to avoid that error in my writing every since Kate Wilhelm took me to task years ago saying something like: Gene, you tell us, show us, and then test us on the same thing--your teacher background. "Trust the reader," is some of the best advice I ever received.

Well, the thing about a board is that it has several threads, giving us more specific info on a topic, say each of your books. But I'm just glad you're here and we can follow along with your progress no matter which board you choose.

I'm just very thankful that Nanci has set these boards up so we can talk with our favorite authors.

I have to say, Gene, that you are probably the most diligent of all the authors that do post, whether on here or any other board. Two things you can count on from Gene, updates and answered questions.

John: Liz says ordered copies go out first thing tomorrow. How long from the west to the east coast? Gives you some reading time, I would think. Mike McBride really thinks this is one of the better Cal Wild stories (check his introduction), and JADE is close to my heart, for the same reason I'm going to title the next short story collection DANCE OF THE BLUE LADY. The title story in the collection is one of my favorites and harkens back to the days when I taught adaptive p.e. and first began writing. I won a non-fiction national award for a story about a boy with muscular dystrophy that I took to the State wheelchair games twice, and he won gold medals each time. He was buried at fifteen with both medals around his neck. The piece was called "Big John."
So it goes,

JADE was a very, very good read. Too short though. I loved the fantastical ending. The characters are so real and the Cal Wild world simply rocks.
