Going to be under the radar for two weeks. Then I'll be entertaining a famous Canadian writer and his lovely wife for a week--showing them the Bay Area. So out of touch until Nov 14th.

I notice a few libraries are picking up copies of TASTE OF TENDERLOIN.
If you don't have a copy, check your library.

UPDATE:
Horror Mall has a few copies of both SHADOW OF THE DARK ANGEL and DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW left. They should have a re-order available soon of TASTE OF TENDERLOIN (or order direct from publisher: ApexBookCompany.com).

Very soon Sideshow Press should open up for pre-ordering of SIDESHOW EXHIBITS, which is three novellas by Mike McBride, Gord Rollo, and myself, based on the cover painting. This book is one of those pre-order lock-ins, and I'm guessing the upper limits on limited TPBs, limited HBs, and even the lettereds will be reached quickly. IMO, all high quality work including the illustrations. Watch for the announcement.

Presently, I'm polishing JADE, which has turned out to be a full Cal Wild novella about a beautiful quasimodo living near the San D Shield (18K words). It's a stand-alone, but for Cal Wild fans, it fits in the time line right between DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW and THE GREAT NORTHERN SWEET WATER RAID (several old friends, much aged now, will re-appear here).

After the holidays I expect to begin work on expanding CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH into a full novel--about a year committment with my slow writing speed--tying it solidly to the whole Cal Wild mythos. This project has been discussed with my agent who has read ST. ZACH, and for what it's worth has his blessing.

So it goes,

SIDESHOW EXHIBITS

Horrology announces this book going up for pre-orders at Horror-Mall tomorrow. Despite this seemingly self-serving and blatant hawking, I'd like to add some information because I truly believe this is a superior grade novella anthology--all excellent stories, writers at the top of their form, with corresponding great illustrations. And I believe all editions are excellent buys, too. The lettered at $170 will include more illustrations and bonus material from all three writers--each of us write an essay about the inspiration for our story, then we each do an essay commenting on the other two writers and their stories. Some perceptive stuff by Mike and Gord, and I hope myself. In addition Tom includes his own story, which is very good--he's an accomplished writer besides a great artist. The hardcover limited edition will be beautiful, signed by all involved, and well worth $50. For bargain hunters the signed, limited trade paperback will be a real bargain at $20. Each edition has an upper limit, and I suspect will be reached long before the February release date. Do yourself a favor, get in early and order one (or more editions--they'd make great gifts), thank me later for the recommendation.

Thanks, John, you're a good man. I wish we had a 100 clones of you. Hope the pre-orders are going well, not
necessarily just for the benefit of Gord, Mike, and myself, but for Sideshow Press--they've taken a big gamble for
a fairly new endeavor.

I honestly don't see it as a gamble, Gene. Anyone of you guys alone would be a good move on Tom's part. All 3 in one book should be a big hit. I'd be very surprised if this doesn't sell out quick.

John: I hope you're right and during normal times, I would agree. But everything is different all along the line, with slow pay/no pay quite common. This puts folks like printers, etc out of business, causing delays and stepping up the no pay/slow pay cycle. I don't think Mike and Gord are experiencing anything different than me--my stuff, though selling fairly well is not selling out as quickly as it did just a short time back, eg. THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH. Whose to blame--publishers, writers, artists, bookstores both on-line/brick, distributers? Partially--most are undercapitalized. But ultimately it is the book buyer who tells the tale. No question he has been cutting back, forced to make choices. Through much of this downturn, it hasn't had a drastic effect on collectors buying HB limiteds and lettereds. But it is now. So SE will be a good test of the market. No question SE is an outstanding product, but it remains to be seen if it sells out.

Thanks Gene!

I've got my personally inscribed copy of Tast Of Tenderloin in a place of honor in my den! A good friend went to a con and asked you to sign it for me and I am very grateful. It joins a small group of personally inscribed books of my favorite authors such as Houarner, Braunbeck, and Pic. As always, I look forward to whatever new you've got coming out Gene. Thanks again and I hope you have a great holiday!

Ttzuma: Ofc it's great to hear that someone has supported one of your books. Even better when they indicate an appreciation for the work. But best, from a writer's point of view, is when someone who the writer knows has good taste and is a perceptive reader puts a book up in a favored spot on his bookshelf.
Many thanks, my friend,
Gene

Post subject:  Re: Gene O'Neill

JADE has been turned in and will be announced for pre-order in March. So there will be two
Cal Wild novellas released within a month or so of each other. THE GREAT NORTHERN SWEET
WATER RAID will appear in the three novella anthology from Sideshow Press titled SIDESHOW
EXHIBITS, up for pre-order now (BTW Gord Rollo and Mike McBride's stories here are super).
I'm fast at work on the bonus story for the lettered of JADE. Naturally, THE HUNGRY SKULL looks
like it will grow longer than a short story, maybe a novelet, 9K words or so. It's in the more distant future after
the RAID, after "Nostalgia," which is the bonus story in the DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW lettered edition
(out soon I think). The SKULL is built around a speculative perversity that doesn't clearly exist now. Should
appeal to the harder core horror fans, I would think. After I finish SKULL (end of the month) I'm going to
work on expanding THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH into a full novel, tying it in tightly to the Cal Wild mythos.
Oh, for what its worth, it appears that both DOC GOOD'S and TASTE OF TENDERLOIN will make the preliminary ballots
in the long fiction and collection categories for the Stokers. Be a battle though to make the final ballot in both cases.
But we'll know soon.
So it goes,
Gene

Watch for more detail on the Sideshow Press section at Horror Mall message boards, but here's a teaser:

Heads up for those interested. Gord Rollo, Mike McBride, Tom Moran, and I will be on a chat on 30th January at 7pm EST at the Sideshow Press chat room on Horror Mall.
There will be a number of prizes given away, including some of Gord's paperbacks, personalized, one of Mike's limited edition hardbacks, a piece of Tom's original artwork
for SIDESHOW EXHIBITS, and I'll give away an autographed copy of TASTE OF TENDERLOIN and a limited edition trade paperback of DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW. Of
course we will be promoting SIDESHOW EXHIBITS, but any of us are willing to talk about anything--just speak slowly in American for Gord. See you all there on Saturday.

Thanks TTZuma! My agent has INDIGO out right now to some mass market editor who expressed interest in reading it. Actually the agent has all my stuff out to various NYC folks. Now, we just need a bite, because the agent thinks he's using good bait.
Yes, my plans are to expand St. Zach, probably call it THE COLLAPSE. If we get interest in INDIGO, then maybe we can work a deal having them pick up COLLAPSE (as a prequel), and, maybe a tying together of all the novelets, novellas, and a short story or two into a book called THE CLEANSING (a sequel). Wouldn't take much work to sand the connections, as I've written the stories with a timeline in mind. We'll see.

Post subject:  Re: Gene O'Neill

Finished THE HUNGRY SKULL. It grew to novella length, so I sent it out as a separate book. It's been accepted, and will have a long introduction by Gord Rollo, who thinks it is my best short work to date--more horrific elements than normal, I suppose (We'll let the publisher spring the announcement when they are ready). I'm presently fine-tuning a bonus for the hard back lettered. ON THE NORTH SLOPE OF LITTLE AGONY and SKULL are in the far future, but both appear close on the timeline. So I'm revising and sanding to insure that both tales fit seamlessly. I'll have to do this to all the Cal Wild stories and novellas before BMB brings them out in their proposed future collections.
Now, I'm back to expanding St. Zach into THE COLLAPSE.
Before closing I'll say that a young director approached my agent recently to read DEATHFLASH, the one-paragraph summary apparently intrigued him. Usually nothing comes of these types of declarations of interest from Hollywood. But maybe it will stir some excitement in those who may have some interest pre-ordering the novel from BMB sometime in August. Also, after DF is published, the lettered boxed set of SHADOW OF THE DARK ANGEL, DEATHFLASH, and the specially written novella DOUBLE JACK (most graphic and violent thing I've written), should be following soon thereafter. I'm hoping all will be out and available at Killercon, which I am planning to attend.
Thanks for your continuing support,
Gene

Check out the fiction section here at Horror World--"Lottery" is my short homage to Shirley Jackson.

SIDESHOW EXHIBITS is going to be out soon from Sideshow Press. Copies of all editions available.

Also up from BMB for pre-order soon is JADE, a novella, which comes right after DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW
in the Cal Wild timeline of stories. It can be read independently. Mike McBride gives it a great introduction. The lettered
edition will have a bonus Cal Wild novelet, THE HUNGRY SKULL.

Working on JOURNALS OF THE COLLAPSE (expansion of THE CONFESSIONS OF ST. ZACH). I think it will tie in nicely with
the Cal Wild tales.
