Some series are bound to end, despite their popularity and continuance of strong storylines. Barry Hoffman’s EYES series struts to the finish line with BLIND RAGE, which ends the adventures of bounty hunter and private investigator, Shara Farris.  A bad ass herself, having survived the forest, a supernatural entity that nearly killed her and severely damaged psychic friend Alexis, finds herself at the heart of her final case (at least in this series).

Photographer Elena Rosseau has been convicted with the murder of her own teenage daughter and faces a possible death row cell.  Jurors and the judge were quick to toss her in jail due to the nature of her rise to fame: the erotic photography of her three children as they grew up.  While the books were hits across the country, the backlash hit just as hard.  Exploitation of her children for profit rubbed many the wrong way and may have driven someone to kill, possibly even someone in her family circle.

Renee, Shara’s protege’ and friend, is still recovering from her abduction and near death in the previous novel, BLIND VENGEANGE, is shaping up to possibly grow into her own force (and possibly own series?).  She faces her own darkness that is festering within her from her own experience with the forest progression from shy, broken girl into strong, insightful young woman.

Both Renee and Shara delve into the investigation to find the true murderer in a fast-paced suspense thriller with a tinge of the supernatural. Hoffman balances controversy with eroticism and strong story as the characters fans have followed in the EYES series have come to the end of their journey (at least in this series).  The writing is tight and the story on the edge, just like the best of Hoffman’s work.

A great bonus?  The addition of the novella “Trial By Fire,” an alternate ending, and deleted chapter, each truly a bonus and not filler. Each brings the reader further into the minds and eyes of Hoffman and his characters, possibly a taste of what may come next from the talented author and architect of Gauntlet Press.

Recommended for fans of the EYES series and for anyone who likes their dark fiction to dance on a razor.
